How to Enroll

Enrolling in AFROTC

Air Force ROTC courses consist of one class and one lab every week and a minimum of two exercise (Physical Training PT) sessions.  Courses are designed to teach leadership, communication skills, cultural lessons, airpower history, and other skills vital to leading in today's Air Force and Space Force.

AFROTC is traditionally a four-year program, and typically starts in the first year of college and continues through to graduation. Another option is to join our three-year program, which is offered for those who have already completed one year of their undergraduate degree.  Interested students who have completed more than one year in their undergrad may still join, but must be willing to extend undergrad studies to a full three years, or participate in full time graduate studies (9 credit hours) in order to cover that three-year period.  In order to participate in Air Force ROTC, you must be enrolled as a full time student (12 undergraduate credit hours/semester or 9 graduate credit hours/semester) at a four-year university or selected crosstown school that offers the Air Force ROTC program.

Interested in joining Detachment 290 and becoming a cadet?  To enroll as an Air Force ROTC cadet, simply add AFS 111 and AFS 112 to your fall semester (if joining the three-year program, add AFS 111, AFS 211, and AFS 212).  Once you are signed up for those courses, we will reach out and provide the enrollment paperwork and give you materials for you to review to prepare for your first day in AFROTC!  You must have at least a 2.0 CGPA if you are joining as a current college student.  Remember, you do not commit to the Air Force for simply signing up for AFROTC.  You are not committed to the Air Force until you contract, which only happens if you receive a scholarship or when you start your junior (300) year after completing Field Training.

NOTE: Air Force courses require an 80% attendance rate to receive a passing grade.
Courses are taught at the University of Kentucky.

If you are a student at one of our Crosstown campuses; it is your responsibility to find transportation.
